Your assignment:
This week for our art challenge, we are going to pick artwork from our homes to arrange in an exhibition. It can be art that you have made, or an art piece you have hanging up in your home. Look through what you have chosen and see if you can find any similarities between the pieces (do they all have animals? Do they all feature the color black? It can be anything). This will be your theme. Pick an order for the images to be displayed. If they were hanging in a gallery, which piece would be shown first? Last? Draw a quick sketch to organize your thoughts. For an extra challenge, make a piece of art to add to your exhibition! Please email me with any questions.

This week, your art challenge is to create a sculpture out of cardboard. It can be from a cardboard box or a cereal box. Create two different shapes and cut them out of the cardboard. Cut slits into the sides of these shapes to slide them together. Use your imagination and make your sculpture into whatever you want it to be. Play around with your materials and really explore the possibilities before making your final shape! Once your sculpture is done, observe your sculpture and notice it from all sides. How does your sculpture change when you look at it from a different angle? Please upload a picture of your sculpture to the Google Doc below the video or email me.

This week, your art challenge is to create your own still-life piece. You may draw or paint a still-life, the choice is yours! Please pick a handful of objects from your home that you use every day and arrange them in the way you want to draw them. Put these objects in a place around your home that is important to you, too. Represent both the objects, and the place, in your still-life. Please send me a picture of your still-life piece, either through email or by uploading it to the Google Doc below this video.

This week your art challenge is to recreate a famous work of art from objects around your house. Pick one of the four pieces provided to recreate. Remember that the most important part of this assignment is to have fun! Do your best to be as accurate as possible with your recreation, but don’t worry if the details are hard to capture. After finishing your work, think about your reaction to the original piece. Have your thoughts on the piece changed after recreating it? Please take a picture of your recreation and upload it to the Google Doc posted below or you can email me a picture of your work.

This week, your art challenge is to make a collage out of materials around your home. You can use newspapers, magazines, construction paper, cardboard, fabric, or anything you can cut into shapes and glue. Make sure to check in with your parent or guardian about what is okay to use for this project! Your goal is to create a meaningful image in your collage, using different kinds of shapes (organic and geometric). Show and explain your image to someone you live with and see if they have any suggestions to help make your meaning more clear. Upload an image of your collage to the Google Doc posted below (with your HPES email) or through an email to Ms. Lemay.

The theme of the cardboard challenge is learning through play. Fourth graders kicked off the process by building forts. This got their creative and problem solving juices flowing and generated lots of good ideas for the arcade games they will build. |
